aText

aText helps you type faster. Set an abbreviation for phrases you type regularly, and it will instantly expand to the full content. Time and effort I’ve saved so far:

  • Over 10,000 snippets expanded
  • Over 500,000 keystrokes avoided
  • Over 30 hours saved (at 60 wpm)

aText is a clone of TextExpander, which I used for years. I switched because aText is a one-time $5 purchase. TextExpander changed to a monthly subscription for team syncing features I just didn’t need, and I had been frustrated for years with UI bugs I reported not being fixed. I normally wouldn’t support a cloned app, but aText is a better app for the money.

Export data

  1. Show aText
  2. Click “Data” in the toolbar.
  3. Click “Backup to…”.

Import data

  1. Show aText
  2. Click “Data” in the toolbar.
  3. Click “Restore…”.

Note: this will erase the existing library, but that’s perfect for migrating to a new computer.
